Gyeryong Hyo Center is a nursing home for the elderly (a long-term care institution providing facility benefits) in Gyeryong, Chungcheongnam-do, Korea. It is operated by the Uideokwon Social Welfare Foundation and has a capacity of 90 residents.

We opened in November 2009, added an adjoining day care center in November 2021, and opened the Gyeryong Hyo Home-Care Center in 2016, so we provide both residential and home-based services.

You are eligible if you hold long-term care grade 1–5 and qualify for “facility benefits”.

In addition, the following may be admitted with approval from the head of the local city, county or district office.

• Elders referred by an elder protection agency as victims of abuse
• Basic livelihood security recipients, or those under emergency measures

If you do not yet hold a care grade, you must first apply to the National Health Insurance Service for long-term care recognition.

You must first apply to a National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) branch for long-term care recognition. The steps are as follows.

• 1. Apply for long-term care recognition (NHIS branch)
• 2. Home assessment by NHIS staff
• 3. Review by the grading committee
• 4. Receive the long-term care certificate
• 5. Attach the certificate and proceed with admission

There are four steps: phone or visit consultation → admission decided after consultation → confirming the schedule → admission.

General applicants first discuss availability and timing with our staff, then submit the required documents, sign the service agreement and move in.

Basic livelihood, medical benefit and livelihood benefit recipients must report their change of residence at the Duma-myeon Community Center in Gyeryong on the day of admission.

Please prepare the following seven items.

• 1. Long-term care certificate
• 2. Individual long-term care plan (issued by the NHIS)
• 3. The resident’s original ID card
• 4. A copy of the guardian’s ID card
• 5. Prescription and doctor’s opinion
• 6. Family relation certificate (for the resident)
• 7. Personal clothing and belongings

For the Gyeryong Hyo Home-Care Center, copies of ID cards and personal items such as incontinence products are required.

As of 2026, a grade 1 resident on the standard rate pays 918,420 KRW for 30 days — a co-payment of 558,420 KRW plus 360,000 KRW in non-covered costs.

• Grade 1 — standard (20%) 918,420 / reduced (12%) 695,052 / reduced (8%) 583,368 KRW
• Grade 2 — standard (20%) 878,040 / reduced (12%) 670,824 / reduced (8%) 567,216 KRW
• Grades 3–5 — standard (20%) 849,240 / reduced (12%) 653,544 / reduced (8%) 555,696 KRW

The 360,000 KRW in non-covered costs is the food cost (4,000 KRW per meal, snacks included). We do not charge for premium rooms, and hair and beauty services are provided free of charge by volunteers.

Basic livelihood security recipients are exempt from or pay a reduced co-payment. Please call +82-42-551-5629 for details.

Visits are welcome, but they may be restricted during outbreaks of infectious disease. Please call +82-42-551-5629 before you come.

We limit food brought in for residents during visits. Food given to a resident with reduced swallowing ability can be dangerous, so please check with our staff before bringing anything in.

Visiting notices are posted regularly on the website’s announcement board.

From waking at 6 a.m. to bedtime at 6 p.m., meals, bathing, rehabilitation and programs follow a set timetable.

• 08:00–08:30 Breakfast and oral care
• 09:30–11:00 Bathing (by assigned day) / health care
• 10:00–11:00 Rehabilitation and exercise program
• 11:10–12:00 Lunch and oral care

• 14:30–16:00 Daily program (varies by weekday)
• 16:10–17:00 Dinner and oral care
• 18:00–06:00 Sleep and night rounds

Through the night we also provide tube feeding, repositioning, incontinence care, support for residents who wander, and emotional care for those who sleep restlessly.

We run cognitive and leisure programs on a weekly rotation.

• Monday — Pilates (cognitive)
• Tuesday — Silver brain gymnastics (leisure)
• Wednesday — Art therapy (cognitive)
• Thursday — Singing class (cognitive)
• Friday — Recreation (leisure)

We also hold cooking classes, birthday parties, invited performances, seasonal outings and religious activities, and run the “Rose Club” and “Men’s Club” — gatherings by gender over refreshments.

Yes — we provide both nursing and rehabilitation services.

Nursing includes measuring and recording vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration), wound disinfection and dressing, infection control, and help with medication as directed by medical staff.

Rehabilitation includes air compression massage, stationary cycling, gait training and range-of-motion exercise. For residents with a history of falls or balance problems, we work on muscular endurance and joint flexibility together.

A doctor is not resident on site, but a visiting physician makes rounds four times a month. We work with Nonsan Sarang Nursing Hospital.

We are also linked with the following medical institutions.

• Nonsan Hana Nursing Hospital — home nursing (nutritional IV therapy; nasogastric tube replaced monthly, urinary catheter twice monthly)
• Kim Gwang-seok Surgical Clinic — general care, vaccinations, admission health checks
• Daecheong Hospital and Konyang University Hospital — tertiary general hospitals, for emergency specialist treatment and outpatient care
• Chamjoeun Pharmacy — monthly collection of regular medication

We serve three meals and two snacks a day, and a dietitian monitors each resident’s intake.

We track nutritional status and provide meals tailored to each resident, along with special menus based on individual needs. Residents who have difficulty swallowing receive dysphagia meals, and those low on strength receive nourishing meals.

The Gyeryong Hyo Home-Care Center is a home-care institution used during the day while the person continues living at home — different from residential admission to Gyeryong Hyo Center.

• Who can use it — recipients with long-term care grades 1–5 who qualify for “home-care benefits”
• Hours — 8–10 hours a day for care grades 1–5
• Cognitive support grade — 8 hours a day, 12 days a month
• Days — Monday to Saturday
• Transport — pick-up available at your preferred time
• Meals — breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner

For grade 1, the monthly co-payment for 25 days of use is 461,500 KRW at the standard 15% rate (meals included).

Alongside twin rooms, triple rooms and special care rooms, we have a lobby, shared living room, dining hall, visiting room, multipurpose room, exercise room, rehabilitation room and walking path.

The Home-Care Center has its own shared living room, program room and lounge.

Donations go toward residents’ medical costs, cognitive improvement services, individual needs such as outings and holiday gifts, group activity costs, and health services. We publish how the money is spent.

Gyeryong Hyo Center received the 2023 Elderly Human Rights Award from the Korea Association of Senior Welfare Facilities.

We hold regular staff training on elder rights and abuse prevention, workplace harassment prevention, proper incontinence care, and fire and disaster response.

A steering committee meets quarterly to review how the facility is run, and we also operate a human rights guardian program.

In 2023 we received the Grand Prize for Social Welfare on Social Welfare Day and the Elderly Human Rights Award from the Korea Association of Senior Welfare Facilities.
